
SSA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Program Overview SSA's academic Intern Program provides scholarships and exciting on-the-job experience, training and employment opportunities to graduate students enrolled in occupational safety, industrial hygiene and environmental programs.
Currently, SSA is affiliated with over fifteen universities throughout the United States and overseas. Students compete for scholarships and are afforded the opportunity to research critical health, safety and environmental challenges within the electronics and related high technology industries.
Scholarship winners are invited to present their papers at SSA's Annual International High Technology safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Environmental Conference.
Examples of Past Paper Topics and Titles (not all inclusive-- the following are a few of the papers submitted in past years.)
- 1. "Teratogenic Risk Assessment" - An evaluation of the possible teratogenic risks associated with exposure to chemicals in the semiconductor workplace;
- 2. "Hazards and Protection Associated with the use of Compressed Gases in the Semiconductor Industry";
- 3. "Stainless Steel Canisters for Chemical Storage" - A study of the various designs and methods of use of storage canisters for con-tainment of photo-resists and solvents in the semiconductor workplace;
- 4. "Eliminating Electro-Static Discharge in Semicon-ductor Industries" - Electro-static discharge as a cause of hazards in a chemical use environment;
- 5. "Laser Safety" - Evaluation of safety is-sues surrounding the use of lasers in the semiconductor manufacturing process;
- 6. "The Impact of Worker Identity on Safety and Health in Clean Rooms" - The psychological effects of clean room gowned-and-masked-environment on workers, and safe work practices;
- 7. "A Reference Guide to Chapter 9, Uniform Building Code, and Article 51, Uniform Fire Code";
- 8. "Controlling Arsenic Hazards Associated with Ion Implanter Maintenance";
- 9. "Elements of a Community Action Plan"-Industry and Community preparation for action in case of a chemi-cal or other in-dustrial accident;
- 10. "An Evaluation of the Cost of In-Process Recycling Technologies in the Printed Circuit Board Industry".
